The Review is in…

A review of 10e Concours international de Chant baroque de Froville is in and I’m still floating on a high and very happy to share it.

“The English tenor Kieran White, scheduled to perform last at the competition, will leave a strong impression. It is possible to wonder whether Bach’s “Deposuit” from the Magnificat was ever sung as well. The radiant fullness of Monteverdi’s “O quam pulchra” (SV 317), where the voice is supported only by basso continuo, is touching. Finally, “Every Valley”, from Messiah, confirms the singer’s talent. The sound production is beautifully timbred and powerful; the support, the range, the articulation, everything is there, with an appropriation of the text worthy of the greatest. He will be awarded the second prize.”

On Cloud 9

I’m living on cloud 9 right now, just been awarded 2nd prize at the Froville International Baroque Competition! It’s been a wonderful experience and I’m thrilled with the result.

It was a total pleasure to share this moment with my original mentor Malcolm Archer and to make music together in the semi finals. He was there as my continual support in the final as well. Thanks to my mentor Jean Paul Fouchécourt for his continual belief and patient work with me.

Froville International Baroque Competition

I’m super happy to announce that thanks to Malcolm Archer I am through to the Final of the Froville International Baroque Competition! Time to relax tonight but back to work tomorrow and Final on Sunday. The last time the two of us competed in a competition together was the finals of BBC Chorister of the Year 2002 and 2003. I now have a slightly different voice but we are very much in sync! Beautiful memory.

“Alcina”

From the Webmaster:

A couple of reviews of Kieran’s performance recently, in Handel’s Alcina

“Kieran White (who was also in the recent L’egisto) made a sympathetic Oronte, reduced to doing what he was told and rightly puzzled by Morgana’s behaviour. White and Nic Dhiarmada made the relationship believable so that during the first two acts it did not simply seem like hi-jinks, which can often be the case. White’s tenor has a nice, plangent quality to it which suits the music admirably. As is often the case with smaller Handel roles, you wished he had a greater role in the drama.”

“Oronte (tenor Kieran White), consistently elegant”

Press Quotes…

Delighted to receive this review from my time at @dorsetopera this summer. Was a special moment for me to perform on home soil…

Kieran, appearing as Damon, Dorset Opera

“A special word for Baroque tenor, Kieran White. He replaced an indisposed singer in the role of Damon, Acis’ friend, late in the day and his true ‘haute-contre’ was possibly the clearest and most focused voice of all the soloists.”
